Travel Insurance
Protect Your Trip
Don't skip this. Medical emergencies abroad can cost tens of thousands.
⚠️ Tap water is not safe to drink — stick to sealed bottles. Dengue fever is present year-round; use mosquito repellent. Rabies exists in Bali — avoid all stray animals and dogs. If you need hospital care, BIMC Hospital (Kuta & Nusa Dua) is the top choice for expats and tourists. Medical evacuation from remote areas (Amed, Nusa Islands) can be expensive — ensure your policy covers it.

Know Before You Go
Legal Guide
Important laws and customs every traveler must know
Drug Laws
Indonesia enforces some of the world's harshest drug laws. Possession of any controlled substance — including cannabis — can result in 4 years to life imprisonment. Drug trafficking carries a mandatory death penalty. Mandatory drug testing can occur at the airport, at police checkpoints, or at accommodation. Do not purchase, carry, or use any narcotics under any circumstances.
Alcohol
Alcohol is legal and widely available at hotels, restaurants, beach clubs, and licensed bars. Drinking age is 21. Never drink arak (traditional palm wine) from unlicensed street vendors — it has caused serious illness and deaths from methanol contamination. Stick to commercial brands.
Driving & IDP
An International Driving Permit (IDP) is legally required to drive or ride a motorbike in Indonesia. You must obtain your IDP before leaving your home country — it cannot be issued abroad. Local police set up checkpoints, especially in Kuta and Seminyak. Driving without a valid IDP can result in fines, having your vehicle impounded, or being detained. Traffic drives on the left.
Cultural Respect
Dress modestly when visiting temples — a sarong is required (usually provided at the entrance). Do not step on or over ceremonial offerings (canang sari) placed on the ground — walk around them. Use your right hand to give and receive items. The head is considered sacred; don't touch a Balinese person's head. Avoid public displays of affection near temples.
