Important laws and customs every traveler must know
Drug Safety
Colombia produces 70%+ of world's cocaine. Scopolamine ('devil's breath') incidents occur in bars — never accept drinks or food from strangers and guard your drink. Recreational drug offers from strangers are often traps involving robbery.
Altitude in Bogotá
Bogotá is at 2,600m. Expect some dizziness, headaches, and breathlessness for the first 1–2 days. Take it easy, drink water, avoid alcohol on arrival night.
Nightlife Safety
In El Poblado (Medellín) and La Macarena (Bogotá), stick to well-known bars and go home by taxi. Phone snatching at restaurant tables is common. Keep devices out of sight.
