Travel Insurance
Protect Your Trip
Don't skip this. Medical emergencies abroad can cost tens of thousands.

Know Before You Go
Legal Guide
Important laws and customs every traveler must know
Drug Laws
Despite some states legalizing personal cannabis use, federal law still prohibits it. Being found with any drugs as a foreigner can result in detention, bribery demands, or deportation. Avoid all narcotics.
Safety Zones
Stick to well-touristed areas, especially at night. Mexico City (Roma, Condesa, Polanco), Cancún Hotel Zone, Tulum town, and colonial cities are generally safe. Avoid areas flagged in US State Department advisories.
Taxi Safety
Never hail unmarked taxis off the street in Mexico City — use Uber, Cabify, or official sitio taxi stands. Express kidnappings by fake taxi drivers have occurred in CDMX.
Food & Water
Only drink purified water. Ice in tourist restaurants is typically purified. 'Montezuma's Revenge' stomach illness affects many first-time visitors — carry Imodium and oral rehydration salts.
