Most widely used ride-hailing app in Thailand. Available in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, and major tourist areas. Fixed prices, no haggling.
Bolt

Travel Insurance
Protect Your Trip
Don't skip this. Medical emergencies abroad can cost tens of thousands.
⚠️ Tap water is not safe to drink anywhere in Thailand. Air quality in Bangkok can reach unhealthy levels during Feb–Apr dry season — consider an N95 mask. Private hospitals in major cities are excellent and affordable — Bumrungrad International in Bangkok is world-class and widely used by expatriates. Medical evacuation from remote islands (Koh Phi Phi, Koh Tao) can be very expensive — ensure your policy explicitly covers island medical evacuation.

Know Before You Go
Legal Guide
Important laws and customs every traveler must know
Cannabis — Recriminalized 2024
Despite a brief legalization period in 2022, Thailand re-criminalized recreational cannabis use in September 2024. Possession, sale, or use of cannabis is now illegal and prosecuted. Do not buy, carry, or consume cannabis in Thailand. Other narcotics (MDMA, cocaine, methamphetamine) carry severe penalties including death for trafficking.
Lèse-Majesté Law
Thailand's lèse-majesté law (Section 112 of the Criminal Code) makes it illegal to criticize, insult, or defame the King, Queen, or royal family. This is strictly enforced — foreigners have received prison sentences of 3–15 years per count. Avoid any negative commentary about the monarchy, including on social media while in-country.
Alcohol
Alcohol is legal. Drinking age is 20. Alcohol sales are banned between 2:00pm–5:00pm and midnight–11:00am. Additional bans apply on Buddhist holidays (Wan Phra). Some beaches and areas have open-container restrictions. Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan: swim sober — rip currents cause drownings.
Driving & IDP
An International Driving Permit (IDP) is required. Obtain one before you leave your home country. Drive on the left. Motorbike accidents are the leading cause of tourist injury and death in Thailand — always wear a helmet (required by law) and consider carefully before renting a scooter. Checkpoints are common, especially on islands.
Temple Etiquette
Remove shoes before entering all temples and many local restaurants and homes. Cover shoulders and knees at temples — many provide sarongs at the entrance. Do not point your feet at Buddha images or monks. Women should not directly hand objects to Buddhist monks. Dress respectfully, especially at Wat Phra Kaew (Grand Palace) where a strict dress code is enforced.
